Discerning Perverse Things

— Discerning Perverse Things

By Pastor Robert West

“Is there iniquity in my tongue? Cannot my taste discern perverse things?” (Job 6:30)

Perverse: Definition: The desire to behave in a way that is unreasonable or unacceptable, often in spite of consequences, willfully determined to go counter to what is expected or desired, contrary

On our journey toward developing in the area of discernment, there are so many areas that we need to focus and depend on the Holy Spirit to help us with. One area that has been more evident throughout the existence of man is the area of perverseness. This is the area that really caused sin to become the controlling power here on earth. Remember the process “Thought= Desires=Appetites=Habits

The scriptures clearly show us this Proverbs 23:7, Proverbs 18:1, Matthew 12:34, Proverbs 5:12, Proverbs 6:14, Jeremiah 4:19

We can find example after example throughout the scripture where individuals just acted out in a perverse manner and it was very costly

  • Adam & Eve
  • Achan
  • Eli’s sons
  • Saul
  • Judas
  • Ananias & Sapphira
  • Demas

No matter how many examples that we find we must learn from them and work on ourselves so that we become the people that will not be perverse and we will be able to receive the blessings and promises that God has for those who follow him wholeheartedly. (Proverbs 8:8, 11:3)
